SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS I’M WORKING TOWARDS:
What specific issue(s) are you taking on, and what inspires you to do so?
I am working in Harbu-Chulule with HOPEthiopia, a non-governmental organization. As a nurse, my work focuses on taking care of orphaned kids. It was my childhood dream to take care of orphans so that is why I studied general nursing and graduated from the Pharma College of Health. I was so pleased while getting the opportunity to join HOPEthopia to realize my dream. At the center, I follow up on the progress of kids with disabilities and treat them. And I am committed to strengthening friendship among center staff and the kids through play and song. I appreciate the efforts of HOPEthiopia in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in my country.
What does climate change or climate justice mean to you? To your work?
Climate change is a complexity caused by nature being disturbed by human factors, including deforestation and the emission of harmful greenhouse gases from factories, vehicles, and industries that are depleting the ozone layer. Consequences include changing rain seasons and global warming, leading to drought, famine, flooding, etc.
The solution to climate change is in the hands of human beings since the major contribution to it is human-made. It’s the responsibility of all humankind and bodies such as the United Nations to protect, conserve and co-exist with.
What advice do you have for other young people looking to get involved in sustainable development?
Youth should play a role in sustainable development for present and future generations. Government & non-governmental organizations should give opportunities for youth to play their role in leadership, development, and innovation.
